A chance to step into an ancient world.
Tracking originated in Africa thousands of years ago. Hunter-gatherers followed animal trails to survive, giving rise to a skill—now a science—that we share with you today.
At first light, we leave camp in search of a fresh trail—perhaps lion, rhino, or elephant. We may walk or drive to locate tracks that hold promise. This process could take minutes or over an hour. Our concessions are vast, and the animals roam freely.
Once we find a trail, Alex and Renias take the lead, while armed Trails Guides ensure our safety. You will receive a detailed pre-trail safety briefing before setting off on foot.
On the trail, Renias might encourage you to join in tracking as well. This will give you the chance to feel the transition between focused and diffuse thinking: zeroing in on animal tracks before stepping back to take in the broader landscape. This skill, incidentally, offers many benefits outside of tracking animals.
Along the way, you’ll hear the bush come alive—calls, signs, and movement—on foot, as it was meant to be.
A Few Things to Consider:
Please remember that tracking is an immersive wilderness experience. There may be moments of intense focus, extended walking, and quiet observation. Our guides will ensure your safety, but nature sets the pace, and patience is key to the adventure.
Important: Kruger Untamed has in place all the necessary safety protocols. Please contact us for more details on our safety precautions.
